In a Wharton conference, Lance Hoffman—a George Washington University computer science professor—mentioned that information such as names, birth dates, and lists of friend networks are more than enough to create an ‘identity thumbprint’ or ‘friendprint’. He noted that these pieces of information—routinely found on, for example, a Facebook profile—can be used by identity thieves and other predators for malicious aims.
